Dareecha

42" x 42"

Mixed media on canvas

This painting contains the first stanza from the poem 'Dareecha' [Window] by Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The poem highlights the adverse affects of discrimination and intolerance in our world. The cracks in the painting symbolize the fragmenting of society as a result of prejudicial treatment of different categories of people. The medallion in the middle is a repetition of the the word 'Al Meezan' [The Balance], and represents the equilibrium of society. As the cracks creep to the center, they begin to apply pressure and disturb the balance.
